Homecoming Day

The Homecoming Day has been a tradition of our school. It is held on the first Saturday of June every year. This year, the Homecoming Day was successfully held with the support of the Belilios Old Girls' Association (BOGA) in a warm afternoon. We are glad to see a lot of familiar faces, including Mrs. K. L. Wong, our former principal, former teachers and old girls, returning to the school for catch-up. The BOGA Choir gave a performance of two songs followed by the school song. It was a pleasant and memorable afternoon.

Instrumental Classes Showcase

Our school has been running a long-established and comprehensive Instrumental Training Programme. To share students’ learning achievements with parents and fellow schoolmates, the school has organizedthe Instrumental Classes Showcase, where some of the participants have featured their first public performance experience of their new instruments. Around 100 parents attended and supported this meaningful music education programme. We also would like to express our gratitude to our instrument tutors.

Young Ambassador for Geoconservation Training Programme  – Overseas Study Trip to Taiwan

Four Secondary Five students participated in the Young Ambassador for GeoconservationTraining Programme which was jointly organised by NWS Holdings Limited and Association for Geoconservation Hong Kong. Throughout this programme, they learnt about geoconservation theory, geo-tourism and geo-tour leading techniques.

69th Hong Kong Schools Music Festival – Secondary School Choir Finals (First Division)

The Intermediate Mixed Choir formed by members from our Senior Choir and the Intermediate Choir of Wah Yan College Kowloon won the championship in the Chinese Class (First Division) Contest in the 69thHong Kong Schools Music Festival. They were admitted into the Choir Finals on 21 March 2017 to showcase with other winners from different classes of competitions.

Joint School Positive Discipline Workshop

Six Secondary Four prefects joined the Joint School Positive Discipline Workshop with 13 government schools on 17thMarch, 2017 at Lung Cheung Government Secondary School. They  learntabout the proactive side of discipline – respecting, encouraging and connecting, so as to achieve asustainable long term self-disciplined atmosphere among students.

Exchange Programme with Four Government Schools

Six students from Shau Kei Wan Government Secondary Schools, four from Sir Ellis Kadoorie Secondary School(West Kowloon) , five from Queen Elizabeth School and four from South TuenMun Government Secondary School attended classes with 4B, 4P, 4H and 4S. They contributed constructive ideas in class discussions, made new friends, learnt about our school culture while their horizons were broadened. The warm hospitality and friendliness from our students were highly appreciated.

Exchange Programme with Diocesan Girls’ School

WSix of the Secondary Four girls, Chung Wing Yan(4B), Tang Yee Ching(4B), Xiao Ailin(4B), Lam Hoi Tung, Angie(4P), Yip Si Wing(4P) and Kwok Hoi Tung (4S) participated in the Exchange Programme to the Diocesan Girls’ School. They attended classes and participated in their extra-curricular activities from 28th Feb to 1st Mar, 2017.

The Mainland Exchange Programme for Junior Secondary and Upper Primary Students (「同根同心」── 香港初中及高小學生內地交流計劃)

On the first day of the exchange programme, we visited Jinshan Zhongxue.  Our S.2 students shared with the students in the mainland and played games with them.  We took photos with them before we left the school.

Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra -Focused Ensemble Visit

Besides regular school teams, our students are also eager to share their music by forming different ensembles and performing in groups publicly. Invited by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HKPhil), our piano quintet is selected to receive their Focused Ensemble Visit forseveral coaching sessions from Mr. Andrew LING and Mr. CHAN Ngat Chau, two HKPhil musicians,under the Jockey Club Keys to Music Education Programme this year.

The 53rd Schools Dance Festival

Our Chinese Dance Team participated in the 53rd Schools Dance Festival.  20 students took part in the Korean Fan Dance while 18 students participated in the Uyghur Rose Dance and both received the Honours Award.

EDB Choral Conducting Workshop

Our Senior Choir was invited by the Education Bureau to perform at a teachers’ Choral Conducting Workshop. Our girls sang under the coaching of the speaker Mr. Felix YEUNG, the Director of Music at St John’s Cathedral and Provincial Music Director of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, as one of the demonstrating choirs.

Symphonic Band - Live Interview at RTHK Radio 4’s R4 Buddies

Our Symphonic Band conductor, student conductor and captain were invited to be interviewed live on RTHK Radio 4 to share their experiences of their Gold Award and Finals in Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows in December 2016. We are one of the ten school bands to be interviewed in the series of A Wind Band Journey of the programme R4 Buddies.

中文辯論隊於第十六屆基本法盃辯論賽勇奪全港總冠軍

我校中文辯論隊在今年屢創佳績,於「第十六屆基本法多面體─全港中學生辯論賽—基本法盃」經過分區多輪初賽、分區準決賽、分區總決賽和全港準決賽,終於在2月11日的全港總決賽中,勇奪粵語組全港總冠軍,其中五甲班謝皓琳更獲得最佳辯論員。

Symphonic Band Camp

During Chinese New Year Holidays, our Symphonic Band had a three-day training camp at Wu Kwai Sha Youth Village. Our girls had a great time in their musical practices and sharing to get themselves prepared for the upcoming Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.

Joint School Prefect Training Programme – “Prefection”

On 2/2/2017 and 3/2/2017, 20 prefects joined the Joint School Prefect Training Programme “Prefection” at Wah Yan College Kowloon. They were separated into groups and participated in some mass games and discussions. For example, they explored the checkpoints of detective game and took different roles in Life Monopoly.

On 3rd February 2017, 25 Folk Dance Club members participated in 53rd Schools Dance Festival organized by Hong Kong Schools Dance Association Limited. 24 students participated in the Bulgarian Dance and received the Honours Award and Choreography Award in Western Dance Section.

Joint Government Secondary Schools Prefect Training Camp 2016-2017

Four of our prefects participated in the Joint Government Secondary Schools Prefect Training Camp 2016-2017 at Tso Kung Tam Outdoor Recreation Centre from 25 to 26 January 2017. In the camp, they met students from Hotung Secondary School, Kwun Tong Kung Lok Government Secondary School and Sir Ellis Kadoorie Secondary School.

Schools Creative Music Showcase 2016/17 (Final Performance)

Our students were chosen to take part in the Final Performance of the Schools Creative Music Showcase 2016/17 after the Preliminary Selection in November 2016. Hosted by the Education Bureau and Hong Kong Composers’ Guild, the Showcase provided our students with an opportunity to present their production in public at the Auditorium, Sha Tin Town Hall, equipped with professional staging and lighting. Their performance was awarded:

S.1 Music – Pipe Organ Appreciation Workshop

Our S.1 students participated in the Pipe Organ Appreciation Workshop at SKH Tang Shiu Kin Secondary School, which installed a new pipe organ in 2016. Mr. Felix Yeung, the Provincial Music Director of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui, introduced different parts of the organ and demonstrated its sounding mechanism. Our girls also sang Bob Chilcott’s Irish Blessing with his organ accompaniment.

本校中文辯論隊於「第十六屆基本法多面體─全港中學生辯論賽(基本法盃) 」中,勢如破竹,於2017年1月14日全港準決賽勝出,中五甲班謝皓琳同學更獲選為「最佳辯論員」。本校中文辯論隊將於2017年2月11日與聖芳濟書院作最終較量,爭奪總冠軍。

2016 Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows – Symphonic Band Contest

Our Symphonic Band won the Gold Award in the 2016 Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows – Symphonic Band Contest (Secondary School Senior Class) on 9 Dec 2016 and competed in the Winners’ Final on the following day. They played Second Suite for Band by Alfred Reed, a piece based on Latin-American dances.

Christmas Lunch Performance at the Helena May

Members from our Senior Choir were invited to perform at the Helena May for Christmas Lunch. They sang a series of Christmas carols, which was well-acclaimed by the guests. After the performance, the girls had a great lunch and chat with Ms Margaret LEUNG, the Chairlady of the Community Outreach Committee of the Helena May, and Mrs Ruth LAU, former teacher of our school.

Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows 2016

Our Chinese Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra participated in the Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows 2016, organized by the Music Office, Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Under the guidance of the instructors and the hard work of the members, our Chinese Orchestra obtained Silver Award in Secondary School Class B and our Symphony Orchestra obtained Gold Award in Secondary School Class A.

Interact club_ Hunger Banquet 2016

The Hunger Banquet organized by the Interact Club was successfully held during lunchtime on 26th November, 2016. This interactive event aims at bringing hunger and poverty issParticipants were divided into four groups. They were given exciting games and challenging tasks in which only one group would win a “rich meal” like pizza and hot chocolate. The rest had plain meals like a slide of bread.ues to life.

Schools Creative Music Showcase 2016/17 (Preliminary Selection)

Our S.5 Senior Secondary Music students participated in the Schools Creative Music Showcase 2016/17, hosted by the Education Bureau. It offered a valuable opportunity for students to present their own musical compositions and produce creative music making group projects with visual elements. It also allowed our music students to experiment their own works with the help from the performances by peer schoolmates.

Study Tour To Taiwan

The Study Tour to Taiwan 2016, organized by the Study Tour and Exchange Programme Team, was comprised of a group of 20 students from S3 and S4 and two teachers. During the 4-day trip, students visited the Bali Incineration Plant (新北市八里垃圾焚化爐) which also provides a banquet room for the local residents, the Suho Memorial Paper Museum (樹火紀念紙博物館) where they made their own recycled paper, the Tsz-Chi Recycling Collection Point (慈濟資源回收教育中心) where they learnt that most of the solid waste  could be recycled to save the valuable resources.

Intermediate Mixed Choir – Coaching by Prof. Vytautas Miškinis

Our Intermediate Mixed Choir with Wah Yan College Kowloon was very honored to have Prof. Vytautas Miškinis, a world-famous Lithuanian composer and conductor, coming to Hong Kong and coaching us in our rehearsal on 21 November 2016. Prof. Miškinis introduced us the singing culture of Lithuania, and guided us in singing his own work and other choral pieces. The choir would perform his work in the upcoming Hong Kong Schools Music Festival in 2017.

Mei Ho House School Guided Tour

On 16th November 2016, 24 S4 students visited Mei Ho House, which is a Grade II historic building and the only remaining H-shaped building in Hong Kong. During the tour, students learnt more about the history of Hong Kong’s public housing development, the way of life of early resettlement block residents, and the striving and resilience spirit of the Hong Kong people.

Interact club_ Social Service 2 _ Ching Lan Home 2nd Visit

On 12th November, 2016, 17 Interactors from S5 went to Ching Lan Home to visit 10 mentally handicapped people. Apart from playing games, singing songs, staging instrumental and magic performance, we helped them to decorate a display board for celebrating Christmas this year. The Interactors and residents did painting and made handicrafts for the decoration.

Art Club _ DIY Bottle Nebula

A DIY Bottle Nebula workshop was held on 25th Oct 2016. There were 21 participants from S1 to S5 and they were taught to design a tailor-made Bottle Nebula with poster colour, glitters and cotton balls. All participants were delighted to create their own unique Nebula bottle with their favourite colors and they are satisfied with their design and enjoyed this workshop a lot.

Parent / Kid Bread Making Workshop

A parent-kid bread-making workshop was jointly organised on a lighthearted Saturday morning by the Home Economics Club and the PTA. We were delighted to have Mrs Varelie Ho, our Chairperson of the PTA, who is devoted to baking, to teach us how to make the delicate Japanese Croissant(鹽可頌), also known as Shio Pan.

Interact club_ Ching Lan Home Visit

On 15th October, 2016, 20 Interactors from S3 to S5 went to Ching Lan Home to visit 10 mentally handicapped people. We did simple exercise, played games, sang songs with them. Some students prepared instrumental and magic performances. All of them enjoyed the show very much.

13th International Geography Olympiad

The International Geography Olympiad (iGeo) is an annual competition organized by International Geographical Union Olympiad Task Force for the best Geography students from all over the world. Wong Cheuk Man, Mandy (S.6P), who was the 2nd Runner-up (Individual Section) in the Hong Kong Geography Olympiad 2016, was selected to represent Hong Kong to join the iGeo in Beijing in August. She has shown distinctive talents in Geography and was awarded the Bronze Prize.

Weather Observation Competition 2016

A team of Geography students from S.6P, Kok Suen Tung, Leung Hoi Ching, Sun Man Ki and Tang Hiu Shan, joined the Weather Observation Competition 2016 organized by Ho Koon Nature Education and the Hong Kong Observatory. The students were commended for their creative and outstanding performance and yielded fruitful results.
